I’d recommend 250kb size for index pages and 100-150kb (even 15-40kb) for other pages. This has to be a standard websites size approach like maybe in the late 90s when designers have been saving kBs on jpegs and gifs.

I’d like to create web pages like that.

Media galleries and features of course demand much more. Still it’s ok to be creative about it. Just try.
